Footprint
Creating a footprint with symbols is a great way for students to introduce themselves to the class. To begin, have the students trace their foot on construction paper and cut it out. Next, have the students find or draw images and words that describe themselves. For this project, we were asked to include three different mediums. For example, I used construction paper, magazine clippings, printer paper, stickers, and colored pencils. Use of different mediums allows students to explore art and be creative.
An extension activity could include show-and-tell for younger kids. They would enjoy presenting pictures to the class, but it would be even more fun if they could bring in an actual object. It would be another way for students and teachers to remember one another. Older students could also write a story about themselves to go along with the footprint and share them with the class.
